Food in the Room: Taiwan Goodies!

Part 2 of the mini-series! Our room always tend to have goodies from other countries, partially because my dad works in Hong Kong, and we are lucky enough to have friends bringing them for us! Next up, Taiwanese delights!

Iron Egg

Basically this is hard-boiled quail egg that had been marinated with spices for hours, then air-dried to give its signature hardened texture. You could see that the york was taking up plenty of space, leaving only a thin layer for the egg white!

Braised Beef Instant Noodles

I bet many of the NSmen knew about this when they go Taiwan for training! The springy noodles, hearty soup and real chunks of beef, its on par with those Japanese instant cup ramen! NTUC has started selling the fried/braised eel version recently, hope they can bring in the beef ones soon!

Canned Minced Pork

Compared to 鲁肉饭 that I could eat everyday in Taiwan, this one is a real close replica! Soaked in a soy sauce broth with chopped onions, the melting fats and finely minced meat adds so much joy to boring cup noodles and fit for a kong-bak style sandwich!

haha never seen that so i guess its gone

I remembered there was one yellowish, greenish rice called ayam kunit or something which is gross.

Bubur Terigu still around and it is a one of the more well-liked dessert. I thought most of the pastas tasted similar heh.

Some of them are nice like the Smoked Chicken and Ham, the Malaysian Sweet Spicy Noodles, Glutinious Rice, Teriyaki Chicken Noodles.

Xinli: Haha.. I remembered the best pasta was the oregano chicken frank or the fusilli with peanut sauce one, best thing you can get in outfield. lolx.

And you reminded me of how we used to make sponge cake out of the combat biscuit by adding water. Ahaha

Stargirl: Haha, u should try some if you go taiwan!

If I had that canned mince meat during my college days, that would have been like foie gras to me

wishihadafoodpun: Hello! Haha yes, it does give the sinful effect similar to foie gras, but much cheaper!

Daniel : haha i think the pastas are still around, every now and then they have new recipes. what Burmese noodles, Semur Pasta etc.

haha the sponge cakes (sometimes we add milo/coffee too) and some guys just survive on that and the fruit bars alone.
