Soup Restaurant is one of those homegrown Chinese restaurants that I always wanted to try but didn't have the chance to, mainly because I couldn't find enough friends who like chinese cuisine when dining out. So when dad asked where I want to eat for dinner one day, I jumped at the chance!

Peanuts ($2.00)
The outlet at Suntec City seemed pretty empty on a weekend evening as we got a table without waiting. Decked in old-style chinese decor, we somehow conversed in Cantonese with the friendly waitress. Braised juicy peanuts to nibble on while waiting for your food!

Ah Kong Sweet Potato Leaves ($8.00), Tofu Prawn ($17.80)
We tend to order sweet potato leaves outside as mom always complain how irritating it is to clean at home. The sambal chilli could have been spicier as the vegetable lacked overall wok hei-ness.
Given its colour, I was half expecting the other dish's sauce to be chilli crab-like, only to be disappointed by its ordinary sweet and spicy taste. The ingredients were really good with smooth, silken tofu and crunchy prawns, though I find the price rather steep for its portion.

Hand Chopped Minced Pork with Salted Egg Yolk ($8.50)
This is the kind of comfort food that I loved to down with rice! Drizzled with light soy sauce, the patty was firm and meaty while the egg yolk was too hard for my liking, frankly I don't really know how to make such a homecook dish outstanding.

Samsui Ginger Chicken ($14.00)
Here comes the star! Seasoning-wise, the ginger sauce went really well for me with its savoury, refreshing touch. But the biggest problem is probably the white meat itself. I have always gripped about how singapore chicken can go horribly wrong with its flimsy, floss-like texture, and this was exactly what happened.

And this kind of disturbed me. If the sliced cucumber can stick so firmly together, I guess it just shows how long it has been lying around on plates in the kitchen, with the centre filled with chicken when new orders come in.
Bill for three was $68.15 after taxes, not cheap considering that we only ordered 4 dishes. Oh well, been there done that with the Samsui Chicken and ironically, I didn't try any soup which I suppose should be their signature too. Maybe just one more visit!

lol your picture of the cucumbers all lined up neatly.
Haven't had their chicken for some time but I really like the awesome ginger sauce.
Soup Restaurant used to be pretty okay, but since their prices increased about a year or two ago, not very worth it already.
