KFC Thailand: Show Me The Curry!

Its no secret that I'm a huge fan of Colonel Sanders. His fried chickens are my perfect comfort food to pig out in front of the TV! On all my overseas trips, I try to squeeze in one meal for the local KFC, as I was really tempted to QC the standards and check out the local flavours (though I failed to do so in Korea, kicking myself as I had indigestion/fever on the day we went town). And KFC Thailand it is!

I remembered how Dr Leslie lamented that our local KFC couldn't hold a candle to the Thai ones, so I was particularly excited about this visit, after not so inspiring tryouts in China and Batam. I was at the outlet around brunch time so it was largely empty, giving me the pleasure to slowly check out their menu. But there really wasn't a need to ponder as I almost immediately saw the one that I wished would be on the menu!

Green Curry Rice Set, with small side and drink (฿85)

Deep fried signature chicken fillet with milky green curry, that's a dream come true! Now to be fair, the curry was perhaps nothing special to the locals, and even a little too watery for my liking. But seriously, who cares? Its KFC! With a local twist! Almost licked the plate clean!

By the way, they serve all meals on proper white plates instead of our cheapo cardboard holders. Feels more classy huh?

Tuna Salad

I thought the accompanying side was a refreshing change as well, good ol tuna chunks with mixed vegetables and creamy mayonnaise dressing. I'll take this over soggy coleslaw anytime!

Chicken Thigh (฿35), Egg Tart (฿25)

Now did Thai chicks really taste better? I tried really hard and even got my parents to verify, but finally concluded that there really wasn't much of a difference. Not that it was a bad thing, as the crispy skin with familiar spices and hot, juicy white meat satisfied my craving.

So glad that they introduced the egg tarts too, as the well-kept quality rounded up my meal nicely. Again, I kick myself for not trying the KFC savoury tarts in Korea. Argh.

I'm so missing KFC vegetable salad looking at your tuna salad with those green peas. Do you remember that? I think you might have been too young to remember. It comes with crunchy turnips, carrot, green peas etc. Absolutely delicious. Don't know why they phased the salad out.

Oh yes forgot to mention. Many years back, KFC here used to serve the chicken on proper white plates too with proper cutlery & chili ketchup bottles at your own table. Eating at KFC in those days was akin to like say dining at Swensen's these days. It's quite unlike the settings at KFC now.

Loraine: Ahh.. I know KFC in PH serves rice and spaghetti right? Local additions are so interesting!

Ice: haha yes you told me about the vegetable salad before, but it really didn't ring a bell. Mmm guess they decided to go really fast food by dispensing away with the plates and cutleries. Maybe Pizza Hut might evolve like that one day too!
