I'm kind of slow when it comes to updating, especially among blogger friends who would have written way ahead of me for the same outing. Nonetheless, this year's mooncake post still made it in time for you to consider last minute deals over the weekend!
This year's mini celebration was attended by lesser people (You were missed, You-know-know-you-are!) with lesser mooncakes (thankfully, actually), but still plenty of fun as we had a wonderful afternoon in Fen and Yuan's lovely home.

Learning from last year's experience, the couple also prepared savoury bites and light snacks to ease the lotus paste overdose. By the way, the Ondeh Ondeh from Maxwell market was awesome with soft, chewy skin and squirting gula meleka within. On to the mooncakes then!

White Lotus Paste with Double Yolk and Melon Seeds - I'm an advocate of big and oily egg yolks for mooncakes, so this fitted the bill nicely as the generous golden ball was accompanied by smooth lotus paste and nibbles of melon seeds within.

Baked Mooncake with Macadamia Nuts and Low Sugar White Lotus Paste - Paste had a very smooth texture and without yolks to provide the savoury element, it was a good idea to make it less sweet. Crunchy nuts hidden within!
Baked Mooncake with Mixed Nuts and Jamon Iberico - Vendors will usually use Chinese preserved ham (金华火腿) for mixed nuts mooncake (五仁月饼), but Mandarin Orchid lent it a luxurious touch by using Spanish Iberico ham instead, intensifying the flavours within. The generous amount of nuts within also made the mooncake very appealing. Good one!

Jewels made a return this year as our only snow skin mooncakes!
Espresso Truffle - Liked the strong coffee taste.
Dark Chocolate Crunch Pearl - Didn't leave a deep impression apart from tasting like mini Koko Krunch balls.
Salted Caramel Truffle - Consistently good from last year!
Champagne Ganache Truffle - Rather mild in alcohol taste
Korean Black Garlic - Very acquired. The longer you chew, the greater the aftertaste of garlic getting stuck in your mouth and from subsequent burps.

Eater Palace - From Lay Sian and Myself
Teochew Flaky Mooncake: Single Yolk with Yam - Yam was strong and smooth but badly bundled with a dried yolk.
Teochew Flaky Mooncake: Pumpkin with Yam - Felt that it was the better among the two as the pumpkin was of decent quality too. Note that both skins weren't as buttery and fragrant when cold, losing out to 珍味 by a margin.

Ever wonder how we did the shots? Fen and Yuan have an amazing collection of props that we could work with, and we found out the real usage of seaweed chicken!
That's all for mooncakes this year! Do check out what the others thought of the mooncakes and have a good Mid-Autumn celebration on Monday!
