Confused Cooks: No-Frills Beer Pairing!

Did Groupon change your makan life? I mean not dramatically, but its nice to see so many different kinds of restaurant offer daily! While I thought some established places might be overusing it (think Manhattan Fish Market these days, no Groupon no eat?), the plus point is that new places are using the source effectively to make themselves known. That's how we ended up at Confused Cooks one evening!

Located at Arab Street opposite Fika Cafe, its hard to classify the casual bistro's cuisine as they serve items ranging from burgers to rosti to Gado Gado! Another interesting thing is that they are a huge fan of imported beers, so its cool to pair your food with more than just Tiger. The tiny place could hardly hold 20 people, though getting a table was rather easy on a weekday night.

Toffee Apple Cider ($12.00), Zing Wings ($9.00)

My first attempt at Cider! With an apple juice base, the toffee-infused alcoholic cooler was fruity and refreshing, great for sweet-loving folks and would perhaps be popular among girls.

Wings with beer, of course! Though nothing particularly outstanding, it made a decent bite with Thai chilli sauce.

Tempura Fish Burger With Egg ($12.00), Meat Lover Burger ($20.00)

The girlfriend and I were in the mood for burgers! Her double fish fillet was nicely coated with a light, fluffy batter, paired with wasabi tartar sauce for that extra zing.

My tall-standing meat burger was quite a mouthful! You got beef patty, ham, bacon, breaded chicken, egg, cheese and even beef bolognese sauce drizzled all over it. Confusion indeed! The end result was unfortunately, equally confusing. The amount of meat made the burger felt rather processed and sodium-loaded. Also, perhaps the chef couldn't prepare everything at the same time, the combo was rather lukewarm when served.

Bill for two was $13.00 with no additional taxes and after a $20 Groupon voucher. Though there were hits and misses, Confused Cooks' unique range of alcohol and an all-day breakfast menu will probably be enticing enough for me to return. Egg benedicts with cider, anyone?
